• ability to grasp a concept, to understand a product and how it works, quickly and thoroughly and then to explain it clearly and concisely in terms that the reader can understand
• willingness to occupy the shoes of the intended reader and ensure that the documentation is exactly right for the user
• the ability to take control of a project, deal with it in a professional manner and see it through to a successful conclusion, within budget and time constraints.

This combination of skills is rare.
